Monday, 3-10, our National Honor Society is hosting a Students vs. Teachers basketball game as a fundraiser. We invite you all to watch!

Both Huskies teams are headed to STATE this weekend! Girls earned 2nd place at regionals and boys earned 3rd place. Congrats players and coaches! Excited to see both teams compete this weekend in Casper!

Good Afternoon, There will be no Boost for elementary students today, February 27th, and next Thursday, March 6, due to school being a half day. All elementary students who normally attend Boost today will be sent home unless we hear from you otherwise. All transportation changes need to be called in by 10:30am.

BEST of LUCK to both our teams as they head off to regionals tomorrow morning! Student Council did a great job planning a fun Pep Assembly this afternoon and a huge THANK YOU to these 4 teachers who went above and beyond in raising spirits today in addition to adding to the Wyoming Make-A-Wish foundation fundraising!

BMS is #1 !! Our MS boys knocked out another 1st at the basketball tournament this weekend. We beat Greybull to advance into the championship game and then beat Thermopolis in overtime to win! The boys really played together as a team and one of the coolest parts was that Greybull's and Shoshoni's boys stayed to cheer for us in the championship. Good grades, athleticism, & teamwork mixed with quite a bit of competitive spirit...this is a group to watch. CONGRATS "A Team" players and coaches! Our "B Team" also did well this weekend in the jamboree, winning all 3 of their games. Proud of these Huskies!

At the Challenge of the Books competition, our team placed 2nd out of 6 teams. With only 6 players competing at a time, and schools being allowed to bring only one team, we had to alternate students so each of our 11 were able to participate. In order to attend, students read books from a required reading list and practiced answering questions about those books. We had 4 students who read all 12 books! Dory would certainly be proud! CONGRATS to our MS team!
Afterward we got to meet the author, Amanda Rawson Hill, whose book we read for the competition: The Hope of the Elephants. She spoke of how she became a writer and what she loves about poetry. If you’re feeling sad or overwhelmed: “write it down!” If you are feeling the immense joy of happiness: “write it down!” If you are just so mad and want to scream: “write it down!” Poetry can be endless!

Happy Engineers Week! Take a look at our STEAM crews meeting challenges to think creatively and problem solve in hands-on ways! We have purchased some cool new equipment this year that allows us to incorporate more STEAM types of thinking, which stands for: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Stop by the library to see our new 3D printers, robotics, art projects, etc. These tools are being used in classrooms to support learning as well as providing students with fun options when it's too cold to go outside for recess.

Our trout are growing fast! They have grown from eggs to the alevin stage, meaning they have hatched but still have the yolk sac attached to their bellies for nourishment, and now they're in the fry stage of their life cycle. At the end of January, Mrs. Tara Hodges, with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, talked to our students about the rainbow trout habitat in Wyoming.

You may have heard that we celebrated winter WYTOPP improvement with bead battles last week. Paper-rock-scissors skills throughout the week determined the winner in each class K-5, who then challenged me. It was a very competitive event and I hate to admit it, but I lost more of those paper-rock-scissors battles than I won. (Perhaps the chanting derailed me?)

Last weekend FFA traveled to Central WY College for a horse judging team practice contest and our MS team placed 2nd!! Individually, Brooklyn Winters earned 5th place, Ava Wennberg took 7th place, and Chloe Cauffman got 8th! Ribbons were awarded to the top 5 spots. Congrats, girls!

Our Multimedia class has jumped right in to doing Podcasts this year! Check out this recent interview with a real-life published author you may know:

Pretty neat to have a high school student named to the Dean's Honor Roll at Northwest College! Comment if you know other BHS students who join Brikton in this achievement. Congrats to all!

Burlington FFA had Market Beef Tagging last weekend and several members have market beef projects they are working with to prepare for the Bighorn County Fair. Thank you Gretty and the Hoyt family for your help!

StuCo, led by Jessica Mendez, put on a "Proposal Contest" for the V-day Dance this Saturday. Jordan Broederlow and Ellie won 1st place, getting a $25 Maverick gift card and free admission to the dance. Second place went to Naomi McNiven and Cole Minchow while 3rd place went to Paxton Philpott and Bruce McNiven. CONGRATS to all who were courageous enough to enter!

Come see what FFA's all about and play some games tonight!

Can you believe it's been 100 days of school already? Time flies when you're having fun and now we are 100 Days smarter!

The StuCo "Penny Wars" were a huge success! The elementary school smoked the middle and high school, but we truly appreciate EVERYONE’S participation and efforts! We are looking forward to donating the grand total of $520.50 toward a Wyoming Make-A-Wish child this year. And StuCo members will be distributing rootbeer floats to the elementary on January 31st!

We had a record number of Daniels Scholarship semi-finalists for Burlington this year including: Breanne Walker, Kinsey Jones, Kyler Winters, Weston Gotfredson, Brynn Preator, Jordan Casey, and Jordan Broederlow! After submitting essays, recommendations, financial information, and transcripts, finalists were notified. CONGRATULATIONS to Brynn Preator, Jordan Broederlow, and Kyler Winters who will undergo personal interviews on February 25 as the last step in the selection process.

National Honor Society President Jordan Broederlow instituted a new requirement for individual service projects this year and NHS students are jumping in! Naomi McNiven hosted a family dance, Dalley Basset organized and hosted a volleyball tournament, and Adelle Olson organized a giving tree in the school foyer and delivered the items to St. Vincent's Hospital during break. The events were a lot of fun and folks expressed gratitude for additional opportunities to give, gather, and connect during the holiday season.

BHS' job shadow program allows students to spend a day with a professional in the community exploring a career field they’re interested in. This experience allows them to observe, ask questions, and gain valuable insights into potential career paths. THANK YOU to all who have made this possible!
