Volleyball action July 10th and 11th!

Burlington Schools have a couple of summer projects moving along. The library has a new glass wall. The elementary playground has a new concrete pad.

It seems like each year more and more students are choosing to interact with a device during their free times and the amount these students interact with each other has greatly decreased. We’d like to get more input from each of you regarding the current school cell phone policy and whether or not you think changes are warranted toward being more lenient or more stringent. Please take a few minutes to let us know what you think by clicking the link to the 15 question survey, for all PreK-12 parents/guardians:

There's still time to get your team together and sign up!

Thank you to all who have filled out the annual school survey! Steve and I do read every comment and look at the survey data each year from students, parents, teachers, and each staff member. It is also shared with district folks as well as with the School Board members during our annual Data Dig each summer.
Based on last year’s elementary student feedback & parent feedback, we built the Computer Science classes for grades 4-5 and the STEAM activities into our schedule this year. At the MS/HS level we’ve continued the Social Emotional Learning lessons during Homeroom since both parents and students have noted that it is important and has been beneficial. Based on overall feedback, we've tried to increase communication from the school, including through the website, Weekly Newsletter, teacher notes to parents, and information on the school's marquee and Facebook page in addition to posting podcasts and videos on the school's Youtube site. Here's a link to the Parent survey if you haven't had a chance to fill it out yet:

Look how far they've come! Celebrate with us tonight as our Class of 2025 graduates @ 6:30pm in the gym!

Region Champions. Boys and Girls.

Congratulations to our MS track athletes and coaches on a super successful season! We had 25 athletes qualify for the "Best of the Best" where they competed against the top athletes from the western half of the state. Here are a few highlights:
Chase Allen, Pierce Peterson, Chase Bassett, & Kellen Winters broke the 4X100 record from 1998 held by Jake Coble, David Loveland, Thomas Tolman, & Ryan Cauffman. Our boys ran a time of 50.13 beating the old record by 2 seconds!
Hyrum McNiven, Asher Loveland, Chase Bassett and Kellen Winters beat the Sprint Medley Relay record from 2002, held by Josh Preator, Michael Flores, Stetson Cauffman and Brandon Christiansen with a time of 1:48.71, six seconds faster!
Kelli McNiven re-broke her own 800 record with a time of 2:35.62 and the 1600 time with 5:39.49.
Kellen Winters re-broke his own mile record running a 4:36.33.
As a 6th grader, Tilly Neves broke the pole vault record with a vault of 7'10.

As noted in the Weekly, it's time for our annual Parent Survey! Here's the link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeDqq7UMXGuj72zqfqtsp7gPowJ3OmFpb009eo1TPDkqucUww/viewform?usp=dialog
Your comments let us know what we should keep doing as a school, things that are important to you, suggestions for changes, and ideas you might have. We will also ask students in grades 3-12 to fill out the student survey and I'd be glad to share the student link with you if you'd like to take a look.
Thank you for taking the time to fill the out the Parent Survey!

MS/HS students were recognized at our scholarship and awards assembly this afternoon for academics, character, athletics, and extracurricular activities. So many neat achievements honored today and every student took home a folder of awards along with a gatorade or soda and a candy bar. THANK YOU to all who attended and presented awards!

Our 1st annual FFA Banquet was well attended this week. Current officers were recognized, awards were presented, & successes celebrated as well as announcing next year's officer team. Roadrunner Sanitation and Sami Paulsen were recognized for outstanding contributions to the program. Congratulations to all and a huge THANKS for everyone's support!

Throughout the year, 5th graders have been tracking a colony from its establishment, to when it became a state; tracking it through the French and Indian War, as well as the Revolutionary War and issues that led up to both. They’ve put together presentations and a model to represent their learning, and would love to share that learning with all of you!
Please join us on May 13th, from 2:15 - 2:45 pm, outside on the playground to see the amazing things we’ve been learning this year in Social Studies.
Presentations will be set up like a gallery walk, so you may go to a student whose presentation you’d like to listen to, then move on to the next one. There are 14 presentations in all.
We look forward to seeing you next week!

Our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) will discuss the current cell phone policy at school and thoughts on possible changes. If you have not yet read “The Anxious Generation,” by Johnathan Haidt, I highly recommend it. Join in on the discussion at 12:45 tomorrow, 5-7, or feel free to reach out and share your thoughts.

Grades 4-6 were able to meet with a wildlife biologist to release the trout we've been nurturing, into the "wild" of the man-made pond. We watched the trout life cycle progress from egg to alevin to fry and then to juvenile and adult. Alevins are the newly hatched trout with a yolk sac for nourishment, while fry are the next stage where they begin feeding on their own and exploring their environment. Seeing these changes up close each day has been a neat experience!

Last night, we held our annual Title 1 Bingo for Books event. Families enjoyed playing bingo, winning books as prizes, and eating pizza! Thank you to everyone who made this such a fantastic event!

CONGRATS to our MS track athletes who recently broke school records! Chase Bassett broke his own record clearing 11'3 in pole vault. Kelli McNiven broke Maren Gotfredson's 1994 record in the mile running a 5:45.30. Kellen Winters broke his mile record again with an impressive 4:40.66 and broke his 800 record with 2:07.21. Kellen also broke Ryan Cauffman's 1998 record in the 400 by 1 second with a time of 55.21. WOW- Go Huskies!

Joe Bassett was chosen for Team America in the CanAm Bowl, which features football athletes who compete on an international stage. This summer the games will be held in Saskatchewan, Canada. Joe will also represent northern Wyoming in the Shrine Bowl, which is a great accomplishment for a 6-Man player. He will also be participating in the 6-Man Shoot-Out which is quickly approaching. Being chosen to participate in these games is a testament to an athlete's dedication, drive, and exceptional skills. CONGRATULATIONS Joe!

Have you heard about our "Kids Read Now" opportunity? May 1st is the deadline for students and families to choose which books your children will receive FREE and directly to your doorstep this summer! Contact your child's teacher for a QR Code and/or instructions for book selection. If kids have not selected books by May 1st, the system will automatically select books for them.
NEW this year! Several of our new 4th and 5th grade chapter books will count as two selections because they're much longer than previous ones. We are very excited for these new robust offerings!
