State FCCLA had tough competition and we still had lots of students who placed! The state will not allow anyone to place unless their score is above 80. The following also qualified for nationals: Jordan Casey, Weston Gotfredson, Kyler Winters-2nd Entrepreneurship, Level 3; James W. McNiven, Taft Winters-1st Sports Nutrition, Level 2; Aubbri Wagner, 1st Job Interview, Level 3; Jessica Mendez, 2nd Nutrition and Wellness, Level 3; and Jessica Mendez, 2nd Sports and Nutrition, Level 3. Participants need to get 1st or 2nd place at state in a Star Event in order to attend Nationals. Riley Trujillo, Jordan Casey, Weston Gotfredson, and Kyler Winters got All-State for FCCLA. What do COOPERATION and SCIENCE have in common? Mrs. Smith's 1st graders have been applying cooperation skills they have practiced with Mrs. Crosby to plant zinnia seeds for scientific observation with Mrs. Braidy Davidson. We have been learning that cooperation is working together as a team to reach a goal. In order to cooperate we need to develop certain skills, which isn't always easy! We have practiced 4 distinct skills to help us cooperate:
1. We need to listen.
2. We need to speak up/talk/communicate.
3. We need to take turns.
4. We need to pay attention.
We will be documenting the zinnia's growing cycle as we write and draw diagrams of what we are doing and observing in our journals. Today we noticed two sprouts!

A huge congratulations to our FFA, especially officers who put in the time to complete the application! Ms. Carson is "beyond proud of the work that these kids have put in this year to get our chapter up and running." Being a GOLD chapter is a huge accomplishment for a first year program. For those unfamiliar, applications are judged on a rubric and then divided based on natural point splits. Our FFA made the top split!
