BHS students presented at the 1st annual PBL summit in Ten Sleep, in October. Our Foods and Multimedia classes worked together to explain the process of starting our new Burlington Catering business. Students discussed the process of creating video ads and business cards to begin the marketing process along with showcasing some sweet treats. The group gathered ideas at the summit and elicited suggestions from local business leaders and government agencies. These adults evaluated which projects to fund and BHS was in the top 3, thus earning some grant money which will be used to purchase equipment for the Catering class. This is a neat achievement!

Over 1600 HS students auditioned for State Band/Choir/Orchestra. CONGRATS to Bradford Davidson who was one of 400 students from around the state who made the cut for State!

The Fall Awards Assembly last night highlighted our sports season successes. BHS placed in the top 3 at the State level in every sport, from last spring's Track champions to this fall's Cross Country championship, to football and volleyball. That is a massive achievement and reflects the caliber of athletes we have, the quality of coaching we have, and the support from parents and community members that we have. THANK YOU!
Our MS season was also very competitive with coaches each pointing out the different kinds of "wins" their teams experienced.

5th graders hosted "Shark Tank" presentations today, pitching ideas for products each group designed with the intent to commemorate America's upcoming 250 year anniversary of independence. Their public speaking skills were astounding. A huge THANKS to our volunteer panel of judges including: Hiedi Christensen, Wendy Fuller, AJ Rasmussen-Dickson, Matt Davidson, Ryan Boettcher, and Wes Townsend.

BHS' FFA members traveled to Casper last week to join over 700 members from across the state, participating in workshops and industry tours. Rae Leonhardt and Jamie Taylor attended the Chapter President's Conference, where they made recommendations on business items that they will vote on at the State Convention in April.

3rd graders learned in STEM class that a catapult is a simple machine classified as a lever, which uses a fulcrum to help distribute effort evenly. They discovered that they needed potential energy (stored energy) to create kinetic energy (working energy) in order to launch their pumpkins. See whose catapult hit the target!

Lots of hands-on learning for our MS students in "Reality Town" yesterday. THANK YOU to all the community members and volunteers who made it possible, including our HS FCCLA students and RMHS' FBLA! Our MS students were able to directly experience budgeting for necessities vs "wants" based on their assigned job's salary and number of family members. One pediatrician said, "I have a good job, so why am I so broke?" after buying a house, groceries, insurance, taxes, and meeting other needs. Another student noted sadly, "If I have to buy groceries, I can't pay for a cell phone plan." It was a great learning experience!

I feel so grateful for the AMAZING teachers we have here in Burlington, including our counselor, paras, secretaries, and other staff who teach and interact with students every day. Each of you has a massive impact on students! I was fortunate to meet John Spencer at the Wyoming Principals' conference I attended this month, who shared a fitting video describing great teachers, like ours:

BHS Student Council participated in the annual WASC leadership conference where Taft Winters received the "Hidden Hero" award, BHS was awarded "Honor Council" for the 2nd year, and our students presented a breakout session featuring the importance of communication within a council and as a school. They did amazing!
