Our MS and HS Student Council members held an assembly today to issue a challenge to both students and teachers: During the whole month of September, can you commit to NO screen time during the school lunch hour? Our StuCo members are leading the challenge and will be providing incentives and alternatives to screen time during lunch. Talks for a nine-square game are in the works, based on student participation. Can you commit to this one month challenge?
One of our summer projects included pouring new concrete and adding newly painted lines for basketball, foursquare, hopscotch, and pickleball, which are a big hit. So many fun things to do at recess!
The preschoolers had a great time at the activity we coordinated with Braidy Davidson last Tuesday!

Jessica Mendez, Taft Winters, Aubbri Wagner, and James McNiven traveled to Florida with FCCLA advisor Patricia Casey, after qualifying for nationals. Jessica received Gold and was 15th in the nation for her Sports Nutrition project. (This makes Jessica the highest placing student that Trish has ever had at Nationals!) Aubbri Wagner was awarded Gold. Taft Winters and James McNiven received Silver.
At nationals, Taft was very involved with the other Wyoming state officers and represented Burlington well in all of the state portions of the conference. Congrats to all!

Volleyball action July 10th and 11th!
Burlington Schools have a couple of summer projects moving along. The library has a new glass wall. The elementary playground has a new concrete pad.
It seems like each year more and more students are choosing to interact with a device during their free times and the amount these students interact with each other has greatly decreased. We’d like to get more input from each of you regarding the current school cell phone policy and whether or not you think changes are warranted toward being more lenient or more stringent. Pretty neat to see BHS as 1 of only 4 schools in Wyoming with students recognized on the Pre-ACT which is taken by our 9th graders. 😊

Thank you to all who have filled out the annual school survey! Steve and I do read every comment and look at the survey data each year from students, parents, teachers, and each staff member. It is also shared with district folks as well as with the School Board members during our annual Data Dig each summer.
Based on last year’s elementary student feedback & parent feedback, we built the Computer Science classes for grades 4-5 and the STEAM activities into our schedule this year. At the MS/HS level we’ve continued the Social Emotional Learning lessons during Homeroom since both parents and students have noted that it is important and has been beneficial. Based on overall feedback, we've tried to increase communication from the school, including through the website, Weekly Newsletter, teacher notes to parents, and information on the school's marquee and Facebook page in addition to posting podcasts and videos on the school's Youtube site. Congratulations to our MS track athletes and coaches on a super successful season! We had 25 athletes qualify for the "Best of the Best" where they competed against the top athletes from the western half of the state. Here are a few highlights:
Chase Allen, Pierce Peterson, Chase Bassett, & Kellen Winters broke the 4X100 record from 1998 held by Jake Coble, David Loveland, Thomas Tolman, & Ryan Cauffman. Our boys ran a time of 50.13 beating the old record by 2 seconds!
Hyrum McNiven, Asher Loveland, Chase Bassett and Kellen Winters beat the Sprint Medley Relay record from 2002, held by Josh Preator, Michael Flores, Stetson Cauffman and Brandon Christiansen with a time of 1:48.71, six seconds faster!
Kelli McNiven re-broke her own 800 record with a time of 2:35.62 and the 1600 time with 5:39.49.
Kellen Winters re-broke his own mile record running a 4:36.33.
As a 6th grader, Tilly Neves broke the pole vault record with a vault of 7'10.

MS/HS students were recognized at our scholarship and awards assembly this afternoon for academics, character, athletics, and extracurricular activities. So many neat achievements honored today and every student took home a folder of awards along with a gatorade or soda and a candy bar. THANK YOU to all who attended and presented awards!
