Mr. May's Lifetime Sports class learned about winter safety while having a blast ice fishing. I heard 4.5 fish was the most caught by any one person, but that might've been a fish story. You'd have to ask Eve how it's even possible to catch half a fish!

12 BES students participated in the Showalter Music Festival, practicing the month of January till February 7th. They anxiously awaited their turn to perform for the judges and did an amazing job. We are so proud of these students for taking time on a Saturday to do this. Thank you parents and guardians for supporting music, too!

Our 5th graders just completed a hands-on social studies project focused on the origins of the 13 colonies. After researching aspects of their chosen colony, including its founding, geography, and daily life, students transformed their learning into a three-dimensional dodecahedron display. Each face highlighted a different topic, focusing on organizing information clearly and creatively. The project combined research, writing, and creativity while helping students build a deeper understanding of early American history.

Our Lifetime Sports class was able to climb NWC's rock wall yesterday. Grip strength was the thing that left the strongest impression; students tested both their fingers and their toes as they climbed. They also learned how safe the tethering system is at NWC. It had magnetic breaks in it to let you down easily when you fell. Students were excited to learn that each tether was below a different level of climb, from easy to advanced. Every student climbed the 2 easy sections, but no one was able to make it to the top of the advanced climbs. By the time they were done, they had worked up a good sweat. It was a super neat afternoon at NWC!

Even our teachers participate in brain breaks! These breaks are short, intentional pauses (usually 1-3 minutes) from academic work, involving quick physical or mental activities to help students reset, refocus, and improve concentration, thus preventing cognitive overload and boosting learning. These breaks can include movement (like dancing or stretching), mindfulness (like deep breathing), or creative exercises.

Bradford Davidson auditioned and earned a spot at All State Music in Cody last week. Beginning at 7am on Monday he rehearsed for many hours with other students from around the state for two days, ending the event with a concert on Tuesday night. He learned different vocal techniques and strategies that he is eager to bring back to his peers. He claimed it was a lot of work but very rewarding being around so many talented musicians. Congrats, Brad!

On November 2, 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed the King Holiday Bill into law, designating the third Monday in January a federal holiday in observance of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The legislation to recognize Martin Luther King Jr. Day was first introduced just 4 days after his assassination on April 4, 1968. Still, it would take 15 years of persistence by civil rights activists for the holiday to be approved by the federal government and an additional 17 years for it to be recognized in all 50 states. Today, it is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer and improve their communities.
