Mrs. McKay's first- ever Murder Mystery interactive Dinner Theater went well, catered by our very own Burlington Catering class. From French-German accents to dancing and gossipy clues, it was a memorable night.

Last September our HS StuCo issued a challenge to our student body: No cell phones, chromebooks, or devices during lunch. Unplug & connect! It was a huge success, but screens seem to be steadily creeping back in. To combat this, StuCo asked for Mr. Aagard's help in building a 9 square, which was assembled last week. A huge THANK YOU #Mike Aagard, for all the ordering, hauling, welding, concreting, and constructing that made this possible for students. We hope this will be well cared for and a fun way to connect with classmates! If you haven't played, grab a student and have them teach you the rules. Super fun!

Several Big Horn #1 members visited rural Iowa CAPS schools last week as a professional development opportunity and the students we met were impressive. The Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) is a national network of high school programs that provides immersive, profession-based learning. Students work on real-world projects, receive mentoring from industry professionals, and earn high school or college credit in fields like engineering, health care, and business. We're excited to be aligning our catering class more closely with this CAPS model as well as continuing to offer an education strand where students gain experience working directly with kids and can get certified to sub anywhere in Wyoming. Additionally, next year we are planning to expand and offer a hands-on CAPS Construction class for interested seniors. CAPS teaches "Power Skills" including:
Resilience & Growth Mindset: The ability to adapt to challenges, learn from failures, and persist.
Collaboration: Working effectively in teams, bridging education and business communities.
Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking: Analyzing complex issues and creating innovative solutions for real-world projects.
Communication: Clearly and professionally communicating ideas.
Initiative: Taking initiative in professional environments.
Adaptability & Professionalism: Developing the ability to thrive in changing environments and adhering to professional ethics.

Third grade had a stellar time wrapping up their space unit! As they explored the wonders of space during reading, students learned all about stars and constellations. To celebrate everything they’ve learned, we ended with a hands-on activity, creating their own constellations using pretzels and marshmallows. The creativity was out-of-this world!

Did you know that for the last nine years our high school foods classes have been involved in a pizza competition? The winners of competition will see their creations being served as pizza specials at The Burlington Place for the month of May! It's become a beloved tradition by students and customers of The Burlington Place. TBP owners Mike and Melissa will choose a couple of winners, but also look forward to having a people's choice award. They'd love for you to see this years pizza creativity AND to vote on the combination that sounds best to you! Polls will close on Tuesday, April 28th, vote here: https://forms.gle/jTWxB3cuRapL5jjbA

I was able to attend State FFA for the 1st time in Cheyenne this year. Such a neat experience with a great group of BMHS students! They were busy the whole week- lots of competitions and tours. I hope our FFA program continues to build, as we do have a position advertised for an Ag/CTE teacher next year. Spread the word! FFA is a great opportunity for our students.

BES 5th graders stepped into leadership roles by teaching 1st and 2nd graders how to play some of our most popular playground games—especially those that can sometimes lead to conflict. They focused on explaining rules, modeling fair play, and helping younger students work through disagreements. Through this experience, students practiced cooperation, communication, and problem-solving, showing strong leadership by turning challenging situations into opportunities for teamwork and growth.
